Echelon For Climate Change

Echelon For Climate Change Promo Banner

Jared Leto is many things; singer, actor, director, producer, fashion icon, the guy who fooled everyone at NYCC in a Rafiki costume but he’s also a humanitarian & has great passion for the environment.

Recently, Thirty Seconds To Mars played their last show of their LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS tour in Athens, Greece. The band delivered as always but what made the show truly special was Jared Leto’s urge to stress something greater. Please read the transcript from the concert on September 30th:

JARED LETO:

“Does anybody know what’s going on in Paris?

[Leaders from over 190 countries] are having a big meeting, this December. They’re gonna come together in Paris and try to make a global agreement to address climate change. I know we’re at a concert but I thought it’d be really cool to do this with all of you rather than just do it myself. I’m gonna talk to the camera and they’re going to show this, in Paris, to everyone.

(Jared looking at the camera)

Hey, it’s Jared Leto. Tonight, we join together with Al Gore & the Climate Reality Project in one of the most important issues of our time. This December, leaders from over 190 countries will come to Paris to form a global agreement to address climate change. Join us in demanding our leaders take action, stand with us & make your voice heard so we can preserve this planet for our future generations (wouldn’t that be nice?).

Climate change is one of the most important issues of our time and our world leaders need to hear from us. So, visit 24hoursofreality.com and sign the petition demanding action on climate change now. Let’s do a better job at taking care of this planet.”

(Jared turns the camera to the entire crowd to show he’s not alone in this fight)

Watch the entire speech here.

The Echelon, Thirty Seconds To Mars’ fanbase, is no stranger to environmental causes. We, together, joined forces & managed to plant over 70,000 trees in Haiti. We have great power and the band loves & appreciates that.

As part of the Echelon but most importantly as habitat of this planet, it is our duty to fight for a better planet. A healthier planet. A stronger planet. We’re asking you to join our #EchelonForClimateChange project by doing two things:

  • Sign the petition here and educate yourselves with the help of the Climate Reality Project website. After signing the petition, you should be redirected to a site where you’ll be prompted to share the petition via social media & email. So the second thing is…
  • Please spread the word about the petition & the Climate Reality Project to your social media pages.

For Twitter, we would like you to post this or something similar:

“I just took action by demanding world leaders to take climate action now. Will you join me?

Sign the petition at http://roadtoparis.climaterealityproject.org/english.php #EchelonForClimateChange”

or

“I’m challenging world leaders to take #ClimateAction now. Will you join me? http://bit.ly/1YFMsIp #EchelonForClimateChange”

For Facebook, you can post something lengthier (suggested by the official website):

“#EchelonForClimateChange: Climate change threatens our lives and livelihoods. As the world’s leaders prepare to gather for the UN climate negotiations in Paris this December, now is the moment for the world to speak as one. Achieving zero carbon emissions is the key to our collective prosperity and well-being for all. I’ve already taken action by demanding world leaders to take climate action now. Will you join me? Add your voice right now at http://roadtoparis.climaterealityproject.org/english.php

ALSO IF YOU WANT:

Make sure you include the hashtag (we want to create buzz) & if you want you can mention @JaredLeto too. He’d be more than happy to hear that all of you are making a difference thanks to him.

“Personally, I do have to thank him because without him (by making this issue public), I wouldn’t know about this global event. Me & my sister decided to actually travel to Paris for the December 11th event so we’re going to be there to make our voices loud. Thank you for this, Jared.” – Sophie

About Choosing WSA:

We have chosen to support Williams Syndrome Association but this was not a clear and easy choice. In our four year history at Echelon Donates, we seek to educate about determining the financial soundness of a charity. We always use Charity Navigator as part of our research but Charity Star is the only charity watchdog that has a rating for any Williams Syndrome group. We had to scrub the internet to find a copy of their 2013 990 tax returns to break down their finances manually.

To learn how to do research like this on your own, check out this article by ProPublica. We also recommend visiting Give.org by the Better Business Bureau along with googling reviews on other reputable websites.

Sugar’s Nepal Experience

Below is a small excerpt from Sugar’s recent visit to Kathmandu, Nepal eight weeks prior to the earthquake. To read her full encounter click here.

After getting a little lost, we pulled up outside a building and as I looked through the metal gates, I saw a group of children all running up with their hands together shouting “Namaste” (Nepal’s way of greeting someone, much like ‘Hello’ in English). I was instantly overwhelmed at all these happy little faces greeting us, smiling and waving as we got out of the cab.

Announcing @JaredLeto’s 42nd Birthday Project: Revive the Rainforest with @Treesftf! #RiseAgainforJL

JLBdayBanner
It’s the time of year for being thankful and giving back, which means its time for Echelon Donates to announce its yearly birthday celebration for Jared Leto. Though he may not look like it, our muse will be 42 years old this December! To honor the occasion, we are excited to once again partner with Trees For the Future to support a cause near and dear to his heart – bringing the world’s forests back to life.

Our last collaboration planted over 71,000 trees in Haiti to honor Jared’s 40th birthday. It was such a huge success that in true Leto fashion, this year we’re going even bigger with our goal of 100,000 trees to Revive the Rainforest in Brazil! This has been an unbelievable year for Jared as our best-kept secret (his awesomeness) has finally been acknowledged by so many. With all this attention, let’s show them how he inspires the Echelon to come together to do great things.

To donate visit the CrowdRise page Trees For The Future set up for this fundraiser. All proceeds go directly to Trees for the Future Revive the Rainforest program in Brazil.

Just a $10 donation will plant 100 trees AND give you a chance to win 1 of 3 AMAZING PRIZES!

Winners will be chosen completely at random for:

The @tomofromearth and @vckbee Fighting for the World Birthday Celebration with @World_Wildlife!

We all have a special spot in our hearts for Tomo and Vicki. There’s the cuteness, the devotion, the humor, did I mention cuteness? But their never-ending desire to fight for the world’s animals is so inspiring! This year we are announcing what will be an annual birthday drive for Tomo and Vicki in support of the World Wildlife Fund, which they support annually themselves!

You can participate in two ways: donate directly to WWF or show us how you fight for the world in your community! Volunteer at a pet shelter, clean up a park, help an elderly neighbor by walking their dog….the possibilities are endless!

It feels good to give back and show the world why the Echelon are a force to be reckoned with for good. But this year Echelon Donates is giving back as well! We are picking 2 donors at random to win an autographed LLF+D insert purchased from Newbury Comics along with some Echelon Donates stickers! And don’t worry we verified that the autographs are authentic.

Signed LLF+D Insert

Work to VyRT Giveaway by @EchelonDonates!

ed-work-for-it

The moment you have been waiting for has come: Artifact is coming to VyRT!

On this wondrous occasion, we wanted to do a giveaway for the world premiere of the award winning documentary. Now wait, there’s a catch! We are going to make you work for it.

Being an Echelon is about more than Thirty Seconds To Mars. It’s also about being part of a family and community. So what we would like you to do is give back to your community and/or environment. How?

By doing a good deed.

It could be volunteering at your local soup kitchen, or picking up trash around your neighborhood. Or planting a tree! Even spending an afternoon with the elderly playing cards at their retirement home. Or helping them get their groceries to their car.

Everything you can do to help counts.

You must submit a picture, if you’re able to, of what you did to help your community or environment with a description. If you’re not able to do a photo, submit a small detailed description of your giving adventure.

All submissions should be sent to donate@echelondonates.com with “Artifact/VyRT Work For It Giveaway” in the subject.

Deadline for all submissions in by August 15, 2013. Two lucky winners will be chosen and will receive Artifact on VyRT.

Remember, the biggest gift of all is the goodwill you’ll receive by giving back.

With Love,

Shannon
