Share your goals for the Echelon Hair Drive for Cancer!

This inspirational idea came from our follower & admin wizard. Thank you Mina!

Cutting your hair to donate for the Echelon Hair Drive for Cancer can have even more significance if you connect it with a personal goal. Perhaps, you commit to not cutting your hair until complete your last exam or finish training for the marathon you’ve been wanting to run. We all need inspiration, so maybe a chance to give back can be yours!

The Echelon Hair Drive for Cancer is a chance to achieve individual goals while also serving a larger cause. If you choose to participate in the challenge, we would love to hear about your goal commitment!

Please leave a comment on this post and/or reply to @EchelonDonates with your goal and the hashtag #EchelonHairDrive.

By participating, you have the chance to connect to other Echelon, maybe people with similar goals, for support and encouragement! Do you think you’re up to the challenge?

Echelon Hair Drive for Cancer

Most of us have been affected by cancer in some way. Either a family member stricken with the illness, a friend fighting the battle, or perhaps, you have had to rally on. Many have overcome the battle but unfortunately some have not. Today, doctors feel that keeping a positive outlook will help boost the immune system but it’s not easy to keep positive when pieces of your body are cut out, your nails fall off, and your hair falls out.

Most of us take our hair for granted. Think about how you feel when you’re having a bad hair day? Now, think of how great you feel when you’re having a great hair day? But what do you do when you have no hair at all because of the poison pumped into your body to kill the sickness and the bills stack up from the cost of medical procedures so you can’t afford a good quality wig?

There are a few charities out there that will make high quality wigs & donate them to those who have insurance companies that may not cover the cost or the person doesn’t have medical insurance at all. We are featuring two programs but more about that later.

This charity hair drive is dedicated to three inspiring Echelon:

Jessica is the sister of one of the AC2A Charity Crew. She was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma earlier this year. She was to start chemo last Tuesday but due to the pic line wire hitting the cancerous mass, she was sent to the ER and released later the same night. She had her first chemo session on Friday, June 8, 2012.

Jessica’s immediate family is small with just her mother and her sister, who’s an Echelon. Taking care of everything with such a small support team has been a battle but love has been Jessica & her sister’s support. The crazy love the Echelon has given Jessica’s sister is helping her during this difficult time. It’s amazing what joy can come from a screaming Bart Cluckens along with the silly cracks that are all intended to make her laugh.

Maelisa is a team member of the NYC Echelon Street Team. She was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in September 2011. She has gone through surgery, completed chemo & is currently undergoing radiation along with drug therapy.

Today, she is cancer free.

I asked Maelisa what 30 Seconds To Mars meant to her during her battle. This is what she had to say:

“MARS always kept me pushing and fighting. I would listen to This Is War and think of the war in my body to fight off the cancer. I would listen to Attack and think of how I’m attacking this and not letting it beat me. I kept thinking of how much the band speaks to living your dreams, how many Echelon are out there living their dreams. There is still so much life I want to live, so much more to experience….I’m not done yet.”

Manon was first diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in September 2007. In June 2010, she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer again & was diagnosed with stage 2 colon cancer in May 2011.

As of today, she has been cancer free for the past 7 months. She is very happy & hoping it’ll stay that way.

I asked Manon what 30 Seconds To Mars meant to her during her long but successful battle with cancer. This is what she had to say:

“MARS was always part of my life but when I was diagnosed with cancer, they were my motivation, support, & the only thing I could turn to. They have helped me through it all with their songs, what they stand for, their quotes, & mostly just being themselves. I was looking for an inspiration & they were the first people I thought of. They have inspired me so much that now they are permanently with me, tattooed on my arm. I am blessed to have MARS & the ECHELON in my life.”

Here is what you can do to help. You can cut your long hair & donate it to one of the two organizations that makes then donates quality wigs for women & children stricken with cancer.
